Camera operator for 50 years. Winner of 3 National Emmy Awards and 2 regional Emmys.
How many years have you been a judge?
This is my first year!
What was your first job in the industry? What did it teach you?
Project assistant in the Public Affairs office at MPT. It taught me patience and how to get paper work done.
What project are you most proud to have worked on?
That’s a hard one. I loved working with Whoopi Goldberg on her sitcom. Michael J Fox was also wonderful to work with on Spin City and my chance to shoot on film. I also am very happy to have worked on the reboot of Murphy Brown. My last sitcom. It was wonderful and had everything a camera operator could want.
What’s the most challenging part about your job and/or the industry?
Keeping up with all the changes in cameras.
What do you look for to determine excellence in video?
As a crew member, I like when things are well organized, we keep to a schedule and the work gets done while we also have fun. As for quality on screen, that’s such an individual preference. I will say I never embraced the shaky cam work.
How do you unwind from work mode?
I run a team of sled dogs and travel.
What are your current roles and responsibilities and what do you love most about your job?
I love the on set camaraderie and the challenge to figure out what each director wants and needs of my skills.
What initiatives or projects are you working on now that excite you?
At the moment I do small projects for the local animal shelter. My way of helping.
