Tell us about your organization. How big is your team? Where are you based? What is your organization’s specialty in the film and video space?
Splash is a video production agency out of San Francisco, CA. We serve mid-market and enterprise and identify where in the business cycle they can leverage video – the highest form of communication. Typically that means a lot of marketing content for targeted campaigns and follow-up content creation (retargeting). We have a team of 10 people with our own studio here in San Francisco.
Why do you do what you do? Was there a transformative moment that solidified your career choice, your org’s success, or your commitment to storytelling?
I do what I do because this career is the crossroads of my two passions, cinema and sales, and it allows me to converge them day to day. Storytelling is a major part of that and it is, in my opinion, an art form that is missing from a lot of content today.
Tell us about your Telly Award winning piece. What’s the story behind it?
The winning piece was a journey through the brand’s history, from the ’70s to current day. Music was the main anchor here and we told the story from there. Fun fact: this winning project was done on a 400-dollar budget and doesn’t at all show our true capabilities BUT it does highlight the value of creativity and storytelling.
Can you share a behind the scenes story or fun fact about the making of your piece?
A lot of random strangers made the cut in this video just from being on location around the city. We spoke to a few people around the neighborhood and they wanted to be a part of telling the story we were telling.
What was your biggest challenge during production and how did you solve it?
Making the footage reflect better when the music was produced. Our original footage wasn’t good enough once we had music in hand. We leaned on props and lens filters for certain shots to make it more clear we were going through a journey and to match the music.
What are you most proud of about this piece? What is the most memorable response you got from this work?
That it’s truly unique. From the original music that can be sold on its own, or the gritty visuals and raw feel of the city of SF. We love making things that are completely left field and different.
You won a Telly Award for this piece. Why is recognition important for you, your team or your work?
I wouldn’t say recognition is important, but it is a true honor to receive the award out of all of the contestants and at this stage from the biggest recognizing bodies in the Telly Awards. Our team had such a great moment celebrating our hard work and colorful vision.
Tell us what you’re up to! If there’s a new project, launch, or milestone you’d like us to celebrate with you, let us know, and we might share it with our community.
Splash Makers Podcast where we feature marketing leaders, growth executives and brand builders shaping how modern companies grow. Would love to have someone from Telly on our podcast.
