Tell us about your Telly Award winning piece. What’s the story behind it?

The Miracle on the Hudson: 15 Years Later takes viewers on an emotional journey to commemorate one of aviation history’s most remarkable feats of survival. Hosted by Lisa Marie Falbo, this powerful segment revisits the 15th anniversary of US Airways Flight 1549’s emergency landing, a moment that captivated the world and became a testament to human courage and resilience. Dave Sanderson, who was aboard the flight, played a pivotal role in organizing a special reunion to bring together the survivors, first responders, and ferry captains who helped that day. As he reflects on his own survival, Sanderson recounts how he worked to reunite everyone to express their gratitude and honor the heroic efforts of those who saved lives. Local first responders and ferry captains recount their life-saving efforts as they rushed to the scene, including Vincent Lombardi, the first ferry captain to reach the plane. Lombardi’s quick actions helped rescue dozens of passengers from the frigid waters of the Hudson River, playing a pivotal role in the miraculous survival of all 155 people on board. While the landing was credited to Captain Chesley “Sully” Sullenberger, the segment highlights how the heroic actions of first responders, ferry operators, and hospital staff were crucial in turning a potential tragedy into a story of hope. This tribute ensures that the unforgettable legacy of that day—marked by bravery, teamwork, and human spirit—is never forgotten.

Can you share a behind the scenes story or fun fact about the making of your piece?

The day we filmed this piece, the atmosphere felt almost surreal — the weather mirrored that of the day the Miracle on the Hudson occurred: crisp, cold, and calm over the river. We took the ferry across to capture the story and meet some of the remarkable individuals who lived through that unforgettable day. Hearing their firsthand accounts while standing on the very waters where it all happened was incredibly moving. As a touching gesture, the survivors gifted us a commemorative keychain — a small but powerful reminder of the courage, resilience, and humanity that defined that moment in history.
