Tell us about your Telly Award winning piece. What’s the story behind it?

After producing Sid Lee’s highly acclaimed 2022 and 2023 IGA Christmas spots, “The Meatloaf” and “Mr. Beaver’s Yule Log,” we were thrilled to return for the 2024 IGA Christmas spot, “Paulo’s Wish.”

This film captures the heartfelt love language of cooking with and for loved ones during the holiday season, transcending past family conflicts. Produced in 3D animation, the ad masterfully uses colour and lighting to achieve a deep spectrum of emotions.

What are you most proud of about this piece? What was your biggest challenge during production and how did you solve it?

I am most proud of the artistry that shines through in this piece. Each detail has been meticulously crafted, reflecting the directors and team’s attention to the details. The different elements were carefully chosen to enhance the overall design, and the finishing touches were executed with precision, resulting in a piece that conveys a sense of artistry and dedication.

The biggest challenge during production was ensuring that the quality of the work matched the directors’ vision. Balancing these aspects required careful planning and a commitment to the process. To solve this, we developed a structured workflow to allow the team to focus on every step, ultimately leading to a film that we can all be proud of.

This year’s campaign was particularly special, as Sid Lee’s own Quentin Fachon stepped in as co-director alongside our longtime collaborator Fabien Fulchiron. It was a great collaboration!

In Quebec, these IGA holiday films resonate with our family experiences during the holidays. This piece captures the complex emotions that families often navigate in this season—joy intertwined with longing, togetherness mixed with nostalgia, and the bittersweet reality of loved ones who may not be present. It’s incredible the transformative power of food over people to bridge gaps and rekindle relationships.
