Tell us about your Telly Award winning piece. What’s the story behind it?
My Telly Award winning piece was about a UPS driver who became so much more than the person delivering packages. To the community, he was family. He always went the extra mile; offering words of encouragement, life advice, and genuine care with every stop he made. Neighbors looked forward to seeing him, not just for what he delivered, but for the light and kindness he carried with him. Telling his story was powerful because it reminded us all that the smallest gestures. A smile, a few words, a moment of connection; can leave the deepest impact. That bond between him and the community is what made this story truly unforgettable.
What are you most proud of about this piece? What was your biggest challenge during production and how did you solve it?
What I’m most proud of about this piece is seeing the joy it brought to the community and capturing the genuine love and connection between neighbors. The UPS driver wasn’t just delivering packages. He was delivering moments of happiness, encouragement, and care, and seeing that reflected on people’s faces was incredibly rewarding.
The biggest challenge during production was capturing those spontaneous, unscripted moments while keeping the story moving and authentic. To solve it, I focused on being present, patient, and ready to film without interfering. letting the interactions happen naturally. That approach allowed me to truly capture the warmth, laughter, and sense of community that made this story so special.
Do you have any advice to other filmmakers based on your career or your team’s approach to work?
Great video storytelling is all about pacing. knowing when to let a moment breathe and when to move the story forward. Just have fun.
Can you share a behind the scenes story or fun fact about the making of your piece?
This story was especially meaningful to me because it was my first assignment back after my bicep surgery, after being out for a couple of months. Returning to work behind the camera was both exciting and emotional. I felt the joy of doing what I love again, but also the vulnerability of getting back into the rhythm of shooting and storytelling. Capturing the UPS driver helping his neighbors, laughing and connecting with the community, made the moment even more powerful. It reminded me how healing it can be to do work that matters, and how much storytelling has always been a part of my own recovery and resilience.
Tell us about the most memorable response you got from this work.
The most memorable response I received from this piece came from both the UPS executives and my colleagues. Everyone loved it.. from the way it highlighted the driver’s kindness to the genuine connection he had with the community. Hearing how much it resonated with people, and seeing the pride and joy it brought to the UPS team as well as my newsroom peers, was incredibly rewarding. It reminded me why storytelling matters: it can celebrate everyday heroes and bring people together in ways that statistics or press releases never could.
