Tell us about your Telly Award winning piece. What’s the story behind it?

The Master the Firefighter series was created to pair with our online course by honing 3D animations to visualize common tasks as well as many of the physiological demands required to apply to become a firefighter. Research and attention to detail went into creating the iconic look of the series that compliments the online course.

What are you most proud of about this piece? What was your biggest challenge during production and how did you solve it?

We’re most proud that the series was a concerted team effort giving us the opportunity to explore applying different animation components. The biggest challenges were building out the animations and making the motion seem natural. Simulating the hose drag and hose pull for the firefighter required a complex physics simulation to make the motion look natural and realistic.

Do you have any advice to other filmmakers based on your career or your team’s approach to work?

Collaboration is key to creating the best work. While there is always a chain of command or a creative director at the helm, the expertise from the whole team contribute to memorable video content.

Can you share a behind the scenes story or fun fact about the making of your piece?

Rendering the 3D sequences for one of the videos required 35 individual animations to be rendered out separately across three computers for about a week.
