Tell us about your Telly Award winning piece. What’s the story behind it?

With a large overseas, migrant population, the Philippine government and its election officials have gone through a series of upgrades when it comes to making sure overseas voters exercise their right to suffrage. 2025 was not only a midterm election year, but it also marked the first time the Philippine Elections were conducted online for overseas voter. With this new, and potentially challenging change, The Los Angeles Philippine Consulate sought to consult The Angeles Company, who not only continue to be a trusted voice in the Philippine community, but can also use their creativity to produce a memorable campaign. The campaign features familiar faces Ruby Rodriguez, Mark Labella, Marvin Aritrangco, and Jinkee Oda, who have starred in some of the Philippines most popular television series and movies.

What are you most proud of about this piece? What was your biggest challenge during production and how did you solve it?

To be an important unifying voice of order, change and democracy for a country that has had its fair share of controversies and political turmoil in recent memories is a big task. As proud Filipinos we do things to make our country, our ancestors and parents homeland proud. The biggest challenge was time. We only had a one week turnaround, and the audience also operates in a different language, luckily we work fast, Steve knows the audience very well from his tenure at one of the Philippines’ largest media companies. And we were blessed to work with some talented actors that knew the importance of the task and delivered high energy quality performances.

Do you have any advice to other filmmakers based on your career or your team’s approach to work?

The human connection cannot be taught in schools or in books. Life experience is the best teacher, and the best way to unlock your mind and creativity. Also, remember that the industry we’re in is a show business. You must understand the “show” just as much as the “business.”

Can you share a behind the scenes story or fun fact about the making of your piece?

We only had about a week to put this project together, but thanks to everyone’s eagerness to get on board and put the message out, we were able to put this out fast and effectively. Definitely helped that we’ve all been involved with community groups and have worked with each other in the past.

Tell us about the most memorable response you got from this work.

The most mind-blowing response we got was when our client told us that ALL of the Philippine consulates and posts and Commission of Elections liked the project so much that they were reposting it and airing it and using it locally for their respective jurisdiction. To put this in perspective, the Philippines has a population of 100 million, however, about 10 million of them live abroad, so to be the messenger for these 10 million people and their desire for democracy is quite humbling.
