Tell us about your Telly Award winning piece. What’s the story behind it?

On August 8 (8.08), Twitch marked the launch of its DJ channel with a groundbreaking 24-hour global music event. The celebration brought together DJs from across the world, each performing live sets streamed on Twitch, creating a continuous wave of performances accessible to a worldwide audience. The event culminated in New York City with a live headline performance by Zedd, underscoring Twitch’s commitment to redefining how fans engage with live music and global talent.

What are you most proud of about this piece? What was your biggest challenge during production and how did you solve it?

What we are most proud of is how seamlessly the 24-hour global broadcast came together; uniting DJs from across the world and culminating in a major live performance in New York City. It demonstrated the power of music and live streaming to connect audiences everywhere in real time. The biggest challenge we faced was coordinating across so many time zones and ensuring uninterrupted transitions between sets. We solved this through meticulous planning, real-time communication with each regional team, and building redundancies into the broadcast workflow so that if any technical issue arose, the audience experience remained smooth and uninterrupted.

Do you have any advice to other filmmakers based on your career or your team’s approach to work?

Our advice is to lead with a strong creative vision while staying flexible. Some of the best results come from unexpected moments, so leaving room for collaboration and adaptation is key. Our team focuses on building true partnerships; with each other, with the talent, and with the audience. When you keep the audience at the heart of the work, the story naturally connects.

Can you share a behind the scenes story or fun fact about the making of your piece?

A fun behind-the-scenes detail is that the 24-hour broadcast was carefully timed so that each DJ’s set aligned with peak hours in their local region, which meant our production team was coordinating across multiple time zones simultaneously. It truly became a round-the-clock global relay. By the time we reached the live Zedd performance in New York City, the team had already been operating nonstop for nearly a full day; creating an incredible sense of energy and momentum leading into the finale.

Tell us about the most memorable response you got from this work.

One of the most memorable responses came from viewers in the chat who described the event as feeling like a “global music festival from home.” Seeing audiences across different countries celebrate together in real time; and then erupt with excitement during Zedd’s live New York City performance; was a powerful reminder of how meaningful it is to create shared cultural moments through streaming.
