Tell us about your Telly Award winning piece. What’s the story behind it?
Pop Star Productions is delighted to share that we won a Gold Telly Award for Season 2 of “What’s Poppin’ PBC?”, an engaging series highlighting Palm Beach County. We also won a Bronze Telly for our Diversity in PBC segment.
“What’s Poppin’ PBC?” is about discovering Palm Beach’s gems: businesses, hot spots, cultural treasures, and most importantly, the fantastic people who live and work here. Hosted by Kitty Lundan, the show takes viewers on an energetic tour across the county, featuring restaurants, nightlife, attractions, and community leaders that help make the Palm Beaches an exciting destination.
At its heart, our goal was simple: we sought to create more than a TV show. We aimed to craft an ode to Palm Beach County through film. Receiving a Gold Telly validated our production quality and its importance in conveying authentic, community-focused stories that showcase why Palm Beach County should be visited.
What are you most proud of about this piece? What was your biggest challenge during production and how did you solve it?
In Season 2 of “What’s Poppin’ PBC?”, our greatest pride lies in the scale and impact we achieved. Over six episodes, we produced and delivered 30 unique stories highlighting Palm Beach County culture, businesses, and people, while entertaining and uplifting the local community. Seeing them all come together was rewarding and inspiring.
Our biggest challenge was scheduling and meeting deadlines. Coordinating multiple shoots across different locations while managing availability with businesses and talent meant setbacks would inevitably occur.
To meet these challenges, we stayed close to our production schedule, planned ahead, and always had alternative stories ready. When a location or feature wasn’t available, we had backup stories ready so the show could keep moving forward without halting production. It taught us that adaptability is just as essential in production as creativity, and it enabled us to deliver a strong season on schedule.
Do you have any advice to other filmmakers based on your career or your team’s approach to work?
My top tip for success in the film and television industry is to never stop learning. The industry is ever-evolving, and once you stop learning, opportunities cease. Recently, I completed the NYU Business of Entertainment Certification, and that experience reinforced how essential it is to keep honing my skills, expanding my knowledge base, and exploring new ideas. Every class, project, or collaboration offers something worthwhile that will strengthen your work and career sustainably.
Can you share a behind the scenes story or fun fact about the making of your piece?
Behind the scenes of What’s Poppin’ PBC?, I wear two hats: executive producer and host. But with no scripts or teleprompters to rely upon when I need another take, doing another take becomes like playing memory match: hoping I remember what was said initially! Let me tell you, bloopers are very real on our set.
Tell us about the most memorable response you got from this work.
“What’s Poppin’ PBC?” has generated some wonderful responses from viewers who shared that, thanks to our show, they discovered new places in Palm Beach County they never knew existed. Many also use “What’s Poppin’ PBC?” as their guide for where to go and what experiences to explore locally.
