Tell us about your Telly Award winning piece. What’s the story behind it?

Together, NCBA and 4media group created Cattle Calling docu-series episodes to connect viewers to the heart of American cattle country, where cattle ranching is a deeply rooted way of life shaped by family, tradition, and an unwavering commitment to the land and animals under their care.

What are you most proud of about this piece? What was your biggest challenge during production and how did you solve it?

Both Episode 3 and Episode 4 winners are close to my heart. Episode 3, Rose Ranch is in the Pacific Northwest where the pastures meet up with oyster beds. The biggest challenge, the rain! It is the PNW so you learn how to maximize the time when the rain wasn’t falling. We had our interview crew ready to move in when we saw clearing on the radar — and the Broll/Drone team jumped on side by sides to take advantage of the short break. Episode 4 Light Hill Meats – what an incredible family! It’s a small family business with a few key players that keep different parts running smoothly as Ben Neale cannot be in three places at once. The week prior to filming, his ranch hand and office manager both were out with medical emergencies… each were critical in the storyline. We pivoted, vetted a few more “characters’ in and around the businesses and we’re able to tell the incredible farm-to-table story of the Neale family.

Do you have any advice to other filmmakers based on your career or your team’s approach to work?

Stay true to yourself and your vision, but be flexible enough to read the room. Some of the best projects and moments are born from change.

Can you share a behind the scenes story or fun fact about the making of your piece?

We’ve shot 5 episodes of the Cattle Calling series; episode 6 Deseret Ranch will be submitted for awards this year. In addition to cattle wrangling, we had to dodge alligators, very big alligators, dozens of them.

Tell us about the most memorable response you got from this work.

I’ve truly fallen in love with the ranchers and farmers of the world—their grit, generosity, and deep connection to the land. And the cows? They’ve captured my heart just as much, embodying both strength and gentleness. Together, they represent a way of life rooted in care, resilience, and quiet beauty.
