Tell us a bit about your organization and what your specialty is in the film and video space.

I’m a multi-award winning voice actor specializing in commercial, corporate, medical, live announce and political voiceover. My range is wide – from wildly upbeat, to sophisticated approachability, to quiet gravitas. Vocal age is 35-50, general American with some subtle Midwest shading.

What is your organization’s ethos and how does it set you apart from industry competitors?

Measure twice. Cut once. People always have time to do it again, but never to do it right the first time. I like to push back on that by gathering all the information at the outset – the creative’s direction, goal of the work, music selection, timing, what they liked about my audition, and what else they’d like to hear. Then it’s about listening. Not judging what is asked of me. I do not have the greater vision for the production, but am simply one aspect.

How can people join or learn more about what you do?

You can learn more about me by visiting any of my social media profiles (Instagram, LinkedIn, YouTube, Facebook), or my website.

Tell us about your Telly Award winning piece. What’s the story behind it?

For me, it’s simply another day in the studio working my process to bring truth to the words, to the best of my ability. Some days it flows, and others it doesn’t. I believe voiceover should be called a “practice” just like doctor or a lawyer. It’s always practice and never perfection.

What are you most proud of about this piece? What was your biggest challenge during production and how did you solve it?

I’m most proud of how it’s simply me. It can be surprisingly difficult to do that! During the directed session, the nuance that was requested in the various reads was so slight that many may not have really heard it. But I felt it, and I had to dig around and really feel my way through each read that we tried.

Do you have any advice to other filmmakers based on your career or your team’s approach to work?

Let your selected voice talent in on your process. We want to know about it. You’ve been taking a bath in the project for months, and we may have just done 15 auditions just prior to the session for the craziest variety of products and ideas. Painting the picture for talent, and particularly letting them know what’s at stake, can only help. Share whatever you have – rough cut, music selection, animation, and your scratch track if you’ve got one! Don’t be shy about sharing your scratch. I love hearing them, because it really helps me understand how you’re hearing the read in your head, and you naturally align the read with the visuals, so I get to hear that timing as well. Share, share, share!

Can you share a behind the scenes story or fun fact about the making of your piece?

Yes! It’s imperative to create a story surrounding the copy that resonates for me, and brings the most authentic read forward. For “This is Y,” I imagined my oldest son was asking why it was important that we be volunteering. After all, “This is annoying and a waste of time, Mom!” So, I sat him down for a heart to heart showing him all the images of the good that the Y does in our community, and why we want to be a part of that.
