1.) WORK ON YOUR SELF-IMAGE

Achieving the level of success you want isn’t possible when you have a negative self-image. This is because you’ll always feel like you aren’t good enough. And that will lead to you not putting yourself out there as you should and not applying for the jobs you really want.

On the other hand, a positive perception of yourself will lead to greater professional success. You’re more likely to be confident in your interviews, seek networking opportunities, and give yourself the positive reinforcement you need to navigate the fast-paced video production world.

Work on your self-image to build self-confidence and self-esteem. Start with your mindset. Train it to be inherently positive by replacing every negative thought with a positive one. Surround yourself with a supportive circle so that you’re showered with love.

Finally, take care of yourself. Engage in self-care activities like pursuing hobbies, doing mindfulness activities, exercising, and eating well. The more you take care of yourself, the more you’ll grow to love yourself.

2.) WHAT’S YOUR INTRODUCTION?

If you met the owner of your favorite video production company in the elevator, how would you introduce yourself? Whether you happen to fall into a dream situation like this or are preparing yourself for an interview, you need a solid introduction.

Your introduction is how you’ll hook people into who you are and what you have to offer. If it’s good enough, employers will remember you, even when they’re sitting with another hopeful.

Don’t feel like you have to do anything crazy to capture an employer’s attention. A smile, upbeat attitude, and authentic personality will win people over more times than not. Simply be yourself and lay out what you have to offer.

3.) CREATE A PORTFOLIO

Having a relevant portfolio is huge for landing a job in video production. Keep in mind that a portfolio is important for specific roles, such as editor, animator, or producer. The first step in creating a standout portfolio is going through your past work and choosing what’s the highest quality and most relevant to the position you’re seeking. The latter is especially important because hiring managers want to see that you can produce the work they need.

Put your chosen pieces together in a PDF, slideshow, or video. Make sure that the flow of your portfolio is right too. For instance, let’s say you’re an animator. You could organize your work by what kind it is, such as computer animation, claymation, and motion graphics.

Employers want to know that you can provide what they need. A well-put-together portfolio illustrates that well.

4.) DEFINE WHAT JOBS YOU WANT

You could dive into the video production market and just apply for anything that sounds interesting. But a better approach is defining what jobs you want.

At the end of the day, you want to be happy and fulfilled in your next role. You want it to be meaningful and make sense for your life. To get this, you need to find the right job at the right company.

And that takes you sitting down and defining the position that will get you the above experience. Detail what job title or titles you’re interested in and why. Talk about what you could bring to these roles and how your work experience matches up with them. This way, you can tailor your resume to highlight how you are qualified for your ideal jobs.

Then, get into the kind of company you want to work for. What kind of culture would it provide? What kind of people work there? What does the compensation and benefits package look like? What’s the company’s reputation?

Getting down to the bottom of what kind of job you want will help you land a role that you’re going to be comfortable in and proud of.

5.) LEVERAGE SOCIAL MEDIA

You should absolutely get on job search engines and see what you can find there. But what might be more effective is taking your job search to social media. Nearly every company is on social media, and their employees are too.

Because of this, social media platforms are incredibly useful for searching for a job and networking. You can develop new relationships with potential employers and coworkers while also nurturing any existing professional relationships you have on these platforms.

LinkedIn, in particular, is one of the best social media platforms for job seekers. It’s a huge professional network that allows you to build your reputation in video editing. You can post all kinds of content that share your work experience and goals. You can even create things like articles and newsletters to show off your skillset.

Whether you use LinkedIn or another social media platform, the key to success lies in your consistency. You must create quality content that adheres to a high standard every time. A consistent publishing schedule is critical, whether you post daily or twice a week.

You must also be consistent in how you engage with people on social media. For example, whenever someone comments on your post, reply to it. Or, make it a point to comment on 10 posts a day to build relationships with people in video production.

Social media can be a powerful tool in driving a successful job search and building meaningful relationships.

6.) GROW YOUR SKILLSET

Do you know what will make you feel like you belong in this industry? Seeing your skills get better and better. When your skillset grows, your confidence grows. And when your confidence grows, you’re more like to assert yourself in the video production job market.

So, as you look for your next role, continue working on your skills. For instance, if you’re an assistant producer, work on something that will help you become the producer, like leadership. Or, if you’re a graphic designer, you could learn a new program.

Continuously develop your skills, and your career will flourish.

The video production job market is a crowded one. But that doesn’t mean there isn’t room for you in it. Use these tips to grow your confidence and get the video production job you thought was impossible to land.
