Tell us about your organization. How big is your team? Where are you based? What is your organization’s specialty in the film and video space?
On Base Productions consists of me, and a small group of freelancers. We are based out of Niles, MI and serve Southwest Michigan, Northern Indiana, and the Chicagoland area. Our specialty is working with non-profits and local businesses in helping tell through story through short and long form video.
Why do you do what you do? Was there a transformative moment that solidified your career choice, your org’s success, or your commitment to storytelling?
I love hearing and sharing people’s stories. When we made the turn to serving only local non-profits and businesses I really started to get a feel for my style and a true passion for my work.
Tell us about your Telly Award winning piece. What’s the story behind it?
My work with Buchanan Community Schools is some of my favorite. The tight and caring community Buchanan provides for its students is amazing. The video shows the relationship the school has with the community, and why it works so well.
Can you share a behind the scenes story or fun fact about the making of your piece?
Buchanan is a unique place in many aspects, but one key feature it offers is a School Farm. Being able to allow access to students to a historic farm site that still operates is fun to witness!
What was your biggest challenge during production and how did you solve it?
Time. Everyone who works in a school district is running 1,000 miles an hour in three different directions and getting on their schedule is tough! But I am grateful that Buchanan was patient and willing to let me tell their story.
What are you most proud of about this piece? What is the most memorable response you got from this work?
I love how authentic this piece is. That is my goal with every project I work on, authenticity. I don’t have a specific memorable response, but the outreach from Buchanan alum and current students has been wonderful!
You won a Telly Award for this piece. Why is recognition important for you, your team or your work?
This recognition furthers the trust my clients have in me to tell their stories. It also adds a level of credibility to my clients as well.
Tell us what you’re up to! If there’s a new project, launch, or milestone you’d like us to celebrate with you, let us know, and we might share it with our community.
We continue to produce content regularly for our clients.
