For over two decades, I have been immersed in the world of video production and film. My hands-on involvement in live studio productions has honed my skills across all aspects of the process. I take pride in my strong attention to detail and organizational skills.
How many years have you been a judge?
1-3 years
What excited you about judging for the Telly Awards?
I was genuinely impressed by the range and creativity of the video submissions. As someone who closely follows trends and innovations in the video industry, serving as a judge provided a valuable opportunity to see the exceptional work being produced across various styles and formats. The experience was both inspiring and motivating, encouraging me to further elevate my own craft and explore new, creative approaches to video production.
What was your first job in the industry? What did it teach you?
My first professional experience was with NBA Entertainment, where I developed a strong foundation in video production and storytelling. I learned how to identify compelling shots for highlight packages and feature stories, as well as how to craft scripts for segments that aired on national television. Working collaboratively with the production team, I gained firsthand experience in assembling complete shows — from coordinating story elements to preparing final content for broadcast. I also honed my field production skills, learning how to work effectively with crews on location, conduct interviews, and capture the additional b-roll footage needed to bring each story to life.
What’s the most challenging part about your job and/or the industry?
One of the most challenging aspects of my work as an editor is managing the wide variety of video formats and materials I receive. While I always communicate best practices for filming to clients and stakeholders, there are inevitably times when the footage doesn’t arrive in the ideal format or quality. In today’s digital landscape, sorting through extensive source material to find the strongest shots and craft a compelling story takes time and patience. A skilled editor must collaborate closely with the director to uncover the story within the material and present it in the most engaging way possible. Although this process can be demanding, it’s also incredibly rewarding—it pushes my creativity and problem-solving skills. There’s nothing more satisfying than transforming less-than-perfect footage into a polished, cohesive piece that exceeds expectations.
What do you look for to determine excellence in video?
When I’m watching a video, I look for something that keeps me engaged from beginning to end. The story needs to flow well, the editing should support the pacing, and the audio has to be clear throughout. I also pay attention to whether the topic is interesting and if the message comes across effectively. Creative effects or transitions are a bonus when they add to the story and make the video even more impactful.
What are your current roles and responsibilities and what do you love most about your job?
Currently, I work as a Video Producer and Digital Asset Manager, where I oversee the uploading of files to Amazon, prepare DVDs for delivery, edit short films, and perform quality control to ensure all edits are precise and free of technical issues. What I enjoy most about my role is the creative process of crafting new films from the diverse source material I receive. Each project presents a unique opportunity to find the most engaging way to tell a story. While some days are more challenging than others, I thrive on the problem-solving and creativity that come with editing short films—it’s both the challenge and the reward that make this work so fulfilling.
What initiatives or projects are you working on now that excite you?
I am currently producing a documentary about my uncle, who was a pioneer in bridging the worlds of advertising and film. The project has been both inspiring and rewarding, offering me a deeper understanding of his professional legacy and creative impact. Through interviews and personal stories—some familiar, others newly discovered—I’ve gained a profound appreciation for his accomplishments and the many people he influenced along the way. Hearing these stories has also revealed how his professional passion carried into his personal life. I’m excited to bring this documentary to completion and share his story with a wider audience, as I believe it will resonate with many.
What inspired you to pursue your career path?
I’ve always been driven by a desire to tell meaningful stories. My love for film began the moment I saw Star Wars: Episode IV on the big screen—it sparked a lifelong fascination with storytelling, filmmaking, and the power of visual expression. Over the years, I’ve come to truly appreciate films that combine strong narratives, compelling performances, and creative effects, whether live-action or animated. Early on, I began creating simple animated films using my father’s Super 8 camera, and I quickly realized that storytelling came naturally to me. That experience inspired me to pursue a career in filmmaking, learning about the many tools, roles, and collaborations that bring a project to life. I find great satisfaction in being part of a creative process—seeing an idea evolve from concept to completion—and I continue to draw inspiration and motivation from the films I watch, always challenging myself to grow and refine my craft.
