I’ve engaged in the production of news-related information programs and documentaries for many years. Recipient of the Galaxy Award, NAB Award for Excellence, NY Festivals Award, Agency for Cultural Affairs Film Award for Best Cultural Documentary, and the Japan Film Critics Award for Best Documentary.

What excited you about judging for the Telly Awards?

I look forward to discovering high-quality documentary works from around the world that strive to take on new challenges.

What was your first job in the industry? What did it teach you?

My first major assignment was covering Aum Shinrikyo, the group behind the Tokyo subway sarin attack. It taught me about the unfathomable nature and deep karma of human existence, as well as the importance of human bonds.

What project are you most proud to have worked on?

A documentary exploring the remarkable life of José Mujica, the former President of Uruguay renowned for his UN speech on climate change and capitalism, and his journey to Japan to connect with young people.

What do you look for to determine excellence in video?

A work that communicates its message with clarity, introduces new perspectives on our world, and explores innovative approaches to visual storytelling

What are your current roles and responsibilities and what do you love most about your job?

I am currently the head of the Program Production Division, and my favorite part of the job is expanding our original documentaries internationally and working on international co-production projects

What initiatives or projects are you working on now that excite you?

A co-production with young Korean creators on the theme of AI, and a program developed with an experienced German producer exploring the changing nature of faith in contemporary society.
