Tell us a bit about your organization and what your specialty is in the film and video space.

SIDELINE is a creative content agency dedicated to being the go-to partner for brands and athletes. We’re right there on the sideline—capturing athletes at their peak performance and translating that same energy into authentic storytelling off the field. Our specialty lies in blending high-end sports cinematography with personal branding, producing content that not only showcases the game but also reveals the personality behind the athlete. From global brands to top-tier athletes, we help bring their stories to life in a way that feels premium, authentic, and unforgettable.

What is your organization’s ethos and how does it set you apart from industry competitors?

Our ethos is rooted in authenticity and a deep understanding of sports. Coming from an athletic background ourselves, we know how to “get the shot” — recognizing that what may look like a simple pre-shot routine to most is actually a defining moment that reveals an athlete’s character and mindset. Working closely with top-tier athletes across the NFL, World Cup, Wimbledon, and beyond has shown us that no two are the same. Every athlete has unique traits, rituals, and ways of responding under pressure. Our role is to highlight those differences and tell their story in a way that feels both premium and personal. That focus on individuality, paired with cinematic quality and cultural awareness, is what sets SIDELINE apart from the rest of the industry.

Tell us about your Telly Award winning piece. What’s the story behind it?

The winning piece was captured at the Delray Open 2024, featuring tennis player Tommy Paul. While the crowd — and even Tommy himself — may not have noticed, we recognized how unique his pre-shot routine was in that exact moment of the match. To us, it wasn’t just about the tennis skill on display, but the mental focus and composure that defined him as an athlete. We concentrated on getting the framing and focus just right to highlight this routine in a way that told a deeper story. Timing was just as important as execution. We paired the clip with a trending track and published it immediately after Tommy won his match and advanced to the finals. That relevance and timing turned the piece into something much bigger — it reached over 30 million views on my profile, was shared and re-published across major tennis and sports platforms, and to date has driven more than 26,600 new followers from this single clip alone.

What are you most proud of about this piece? What was your biggest challenge during production and how did you solve it?

What I’m most proud of is that I didn’t overthink it. I trusted my instincts — captured the moment, edited quickly, and posted right after without hesitation, and then stepped away instead of obsessing over the numbers. The biggest challenge was simply recognizing the significance of the moment in real time. What looked like a normal pre-shot routine to most people, I saw as something deeper — a glimpse into Tommy’s mental focus. That split-second awareness was the key to turning a routine action into a story that resonated with millions.

Do you have any advice to other filmmakers based on your career or your team’s approach to work?

My biggest advice is: don’t overthink it. Trust your eye, trust your instincts, and put the work out there. Some of the most impactful pieces I’ve created came from moments I didn’t plan for, but recognized in real time. Consistency and authenticity matter more than perfection, if you keep showing your perspective, the right audience will eventually find it. I’d also add that coming from a sports background taught me the importance of preparation and awareness. You have to be ready at any second to capture something that goes deeper than the action itself — those in-between moments are where the real stories live.

Can you share a behind the scenes story or fun fact about the making of your piece?

A fun fact is that we weren’t even there to film Tommy Paul. We had been hired by a client, which gave us media access for the tournament, and were already packing up to leave. The last match of the day happened to be Tommy’s, so we turned around and thought, “might as well watch the last game.” I decided to head courtside for a few extra shots and that’s when I captured the moment that ended up going viral. Sometimes the best stories happen when you least expect them.

Tell us about the most memorable response you got from this work.

The most memorable responses came from young creatives who reached out to say this piece “gave them hope.” They told me it reminded them not to overthink posting, but to focus on showing their skills and putting their work out there, because eventually, it will connect with the right audience. At the time, my account had only around 2,000 followers, so seeing this clip take off and inspire others in the creative space made the whole experience even more meaningful.
