| Biography: |
Mark Bazil has been an art director, designer, writer and creative director for the last 24 years. His award winning creative executions have dominated various award competitions over a wide range of design, print, interactive and broadcast categories. From small start-up businesses to Fortune 500 conglomerates, he has assisted clients in growing their respective businesses through innovative, compelling marketing solutions. His experience in the advertising field is as broad as it is thorough—from the large, corporate environment of Young & Rubicam to his own boutique agency, Bazil-Victory Advertising. He has succeeded in consistently delivering award-winning results over a wide range of media, over an even wider range of clients, products and services. His multi-disciplinary capabilities and talents allow him to easily cross-over from one media to another with dexterity, agility and a confidence that only comes from many years of hands-on experience. He has accumulated over 140 advertising awards during his career.
Mark began his illustrious career at Young & Rubicam—Detroit. There he was in his element, surrounded by all things automotive. Early assignments included advertising for Uniroyal, Motorcraft and Lincoln, and catalogs for Mercury Marquis, Grand Marquis and Capri. Weekly “win ads” were designed for full-page placement in USA Today as Lincoln–Mercury Motorsports dominated the Trans-Am series (with victories in 11 of races that year).
Shortly after being named “Agency of the Year”, Henderson Advertising recruited him to work on their impressive roster of package goods—St. Pauli Girl Beer, Fantastik Spray Cleaner, Glass Plus, Sylvania Television and Chris-Craft. After rising through the ranks, he felt the inclination and confidence to “do it better” and set out on his own.
Starting with nothing but a Mac at his dining room table, over the next 9 years he grew his own creative boutique, Bazil-Victory Advertising, into a very successful 12 million dollar shop. He landed enviable advertising, promotional, and broadcast assignments for DirecTV. He completed over 100 projects for MTV Networks. He built a strong, prestigious stable of clients that included Wachovia, Canadian Club, Advance America and Umbro.
In order to resharpen his focus on creative excellence, he merged his agency with Erwin-Penland Advertising, taking over as VP/Creative Director. Over the next 5 years, he led that agency through steady growth from 45 to 165 employees. Along the way, they landed accounts…some big accounts…among them were Verizon Wireless, Michelin, Uniroyal, BMW, and ScanSource. Former clients Advance America and Wachovia (through a merger with First Union) came on board. They broke the 100 million dollar ceiling in 2003, and kept going.
After some very intense, very focused reflection in the Fall of 2005, he made another tough decision. He decided to focus on what he loves most about advertising. Now, as a Professor of Advertising Design at Savannah College of Art and Design, he does what he does best…nurturing, developing, and inspiring young art directors, while continuing as Creative Director to develop creative projects for `a la carte, inc.
He serves on the Adobe Creative Professionals Advisory Board, the McGraw Hill Publications Academic Advisory Board, the Wiley Faculty Network and is an active member of the NY Art Director’s Club.
